Prayer & Care

We want to be a community where you can both receive care and care for others through prayer. As a church family, we seek to be with and for one another in seasons of joy and seasons of hardship. When life feels overwhelming or it’s hard to know where to turn, Redeemer East Side offers resources to meet you with compassion and care. We also offer regular opportunities for prayer—spaces to link arms with our community and bring our needs before God together.

Receive Care

Our desire is to model the care of Jesus for one another and especially to those with greater needs, because love for one another is the mark of a Christian community. In order to foster care for each other in ordinary times and times of greater need, we must deepen in the character and ways of Jesus, so that we become mature, attaining to the fullness of Christ and living for his purposes wherever we are (Ephesians 4:11-16, Matthew 28:18-20, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21). Building Redeemer East Side into a community of care and mission will require discipleship, so that all of us minister to others through the grace of Jesus. The following is a model for care at Redeemer East Side:

Community Care

Rooted in the love of Christ, our church seeks to care for each person by truly knowing and loving them. We do this primarily through our group ministries, where members come alongside one another—listening, encouraging, and praying together.

When additional care is needed, you may find our elders, diaconate, or pastoral staff via:

  • Weekly after-service prayer with an elder, deacon, or deaconess

  • Diaconate care line or care form to receive prayer over the phone

  • Diaconate care line or care form to receive practical, spiritual, and emotional support by two diaconate team members

  • Pastoral care appointments for questions and guidance

Diaconate Care

The Diaconate is composed of deacons and deaconesses who are trained members of Redeemer East Side. They demonstrate and extend God’s mercy to people in our congregation who are facing difficult circumstances —offering practical help, financial assistance, and prayer support. As Redeemer East Side’s mercy ministry, the Diaconate Mercy Fund provides for tangible needs such as housing, food, transportation, medical expenses, and biblical counseling, all while pointing to the transformative work of the gospel.

Reaching out to a deacon or deaconess is often a helpful first step when you’re feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to turn. After every Sunday worship service, members of the Diaconate are available to pray with you. Simply come to the front of the Sanctuary and look for those wearing red and white name tags. All information is kept confidential.

Please contact the Diaconate team by filling out the care form or calling 917-206-1451.

Pastoral Care

Pastoral care is a ministry of listening, guidance, and prayer that seeks to meet the spiritual and relational needs of every member of our church family. Whether you have questions about Christianity, are preparing for marriage, facing illness, or simply need someone to pray with you, our pastoral staff is here to walk alongside you. Pastoral care addresses spiritual and relational needs, helping you grow in faith and receive encouragement from church leadership.

Please email a pastor or assistant pastor for pastoral care.

Bereavement Group

Our Bereavement Group provides a supportive, Christ-centered space for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The group meets at 7pm on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month. These gatherings are offered as stand-alone sessions, so you are welcome to attend as you’re able. Whether your loss is recent or long past, you are invited to come and grieve in community.

Counseling

Redeemer Counseling Services (RCS) seeks to transform people from all walks of life through professional, biblically-based counseling, and to equip others to counsel through the redemptive power of the gospel. They offer a wide variety of services including individual counseling, couples counseling, family counseling, group counseling, career direction services, and workshops.

Receive Prayer

Healing Prayer

In addition to the weekly prayer offered by members of the Diaconate, Redeemer East Side elders offer healing prayer on the 1st Sunday of the month. You can pray with an elder after service in the Sanctuary.

Online Prayer Request

We also have a prayer team that gathers monthly to pray for the church and the needs of the congregation. Requests are confidential and may be submitted through the care form.
