Give

We believe that the gospel changes everything, including how we give. Through Christ, God has graciously given us everything. This liberates us to generously contribute to what God is doing where we live, work, and love. Your gift helps us to gather convinced and curious East Siders into a vibrant gospel community where people find belonging, experience transformation, and are equipped to serve God and others.

Other Ways to Give

Mail a Check

If you would like to mail a check (please don’t send cash), you can mail it to:

Redeemer Presbyterian Church East Side
Attn: East Side Finance Dept.
150 W. 83rd St
New York, NY 10024

For checks meant for a specific designated fund, you must write the fund name in the memo line of the check and designate Groundwork or the church's name with the specific fund like the "Redeemer East Side Diaconate" or "Redeemer East Side Disaster Relief Fund." Checks are recorded on the day of deposit with the exception of year end.

If your bank has automated bill paying you can set up Redeemer Presbyterian Church East Side to receive electronically generated checks, allowing you an easier way to be systematic in your giving.

In order to receive the appropriate documentation you need for tax purposes, your name and address must be clearly identifiable on your check. For gifts made by mail at year end, IRS regulations require that the Post Office postmark stamped on your envelope bear the same year as that for which you intend to receive credit for the gift. We are precluded by law from crediting in December any gift received by mail postmarked in January of the subsequent year.

Stock or Mutual Funds

You can donate appreciated securities (stock, mutual funds, bonds, ADRs (American Depository Receipts), and other 'property'), and oftentimes receive a greater tax benefit than you would receive as compared to selling the appreciated securities and then donating cash. Donations of appreciated securities are recorded as a charitable gift at the appreciated amount. By donating appreciated securities, you can avoid recording a capital gain in the security (assuming the investment has appreciated and that you have held the asset for more than one year). You should check with a tax professional before initiating any transfer of securities. If you would like to donate securities you can initiate the transfer through your broker and request that the securities be transferred to:

JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A.
Cred Acct No.: P72500 E21058004
DTC#: 0902
FCC Acct Name: Redeemer Presbyterian Church East Side

Please contact Priscilla Dewing via email or phone (917-206-1427) if you are considering this kind of gift so that we can understand how you would like this gift to be utilized and send you a tax receipt in a timely manner.

Donor Advised Funds

You can make a gift to Redeemer via a Donor Advised Fund. Please keep in mind that your tax receipt will be issued by the Fund, not Redeemer. Redeemer will include any Donor Advised Fund gifts on your contribution statement, under the 'non tax deductible' section. Please advise the Donor Advised Fund with the instruction of which fund (e.g., East Side, Groundwork) the gift is intended.

Employer Matching

Many companies match employees’ gifts to charitable programs. Please contact the individual at your company who handles matching gifts to obtain any paperwork on your company's policy and your eligibility as an employee. In the event that Redeemer East Side needs to complete any paperwork or confirm completed donations, please direct all requests to Priscilla Dewing via email or phone (917-206-1427).

Qualified Charitable Distribution

If you are age 70½ or older, you can give directly from your IRA through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). For those age 73 or older, a QCD can count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) and may reduce your taxable income.

Normally, IRA withdrawals are treated as taxable income. However, when funds are transferred directly from your IRA to a qualified charity, they are excluded from your taxable income while still satisfying your RMD.

After turning 73, you are required to take minimum distributions from your IRA, and penalties may apply if you do not. A QCD allows you to direct up to $108,000 per individual—or $216,000 per couple—each year toward charitable giving while meeting this requirement.

If you have questions or would like assistance giving through a Qualified Charitable Distribution, please contact Priscilla Dewing via email or phone (917-206-1427).

PayPal

Redeemer Presbyterian Church is registered as an eligible charity with Paypal Giving Fund. Donations can be made from an individual’s Paypal account dashboard by navigating to “Donate to a Cause” and then finding “Redeemer Presbyterian Church” via the searchable database of charities. Donations can also be made by clicking here.  Please note that you will not receive a tax receipt from Redeemer for donations made via this program, as all donations are made by Paypal Giving Fund. Donations from Paypal Giving Fund may take 15-45 days to process, so please contact finance@redeemer.com should you make a donation close to year end so that we can be sure to include your gift in our annual giving reports.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. The full amount of your gift will be tax deductible.

  • Only if the online gift is through credit or debit card. Redeemer pays 1.5% to 2.5% merchant fees for each credit or debit card gift. Please consider giving by electronic check by entering your account number and routing number when making larger gifts.

  • We are able to accept gifts via echeck of up to $250,000 per week per person. Gifts can be made directly on our website. Credit card gift limits are set by your credit card provider.

In the event that you are planning to make a large gift at the end of the year with your credit card, you may want to call your credit card company in advance to pre-authorize your gift transaction, particularly if you plan on making multiple gifts to Redeemer within a short time span. Redeemer has found through experience that some credit card issuers may require your authorization to process your online gift. With the proper pre-authorization measures in place, we are able to accept gifts via Visa/Mastercard/Discover of up to $100,000 per single gift. Please contact us if you wish to make multiple Visa/Mastercard/Discover gifts greater than $100,000 in the aggregate. We are able to accept gifts via Amex of any amount. Credit card gifts can be made directly on our website.

  • Echecks and credit card gifts that are made online and time stamped by 11:59pm on December 31st will be included in your tax deductible contribution statement for the year.

  • Mailed checks which are postmarked by December 31 by the US Postal Service will be included in your tax deductible contribution statement for the year. Please note that IRS regulations require that checks sent through overnight carriers (such as UPS or FedEx) must be recorded on the date that the charity receives the check (rather than a postmarked date). So if you send a donation via UPS or FedEx (or any carrier other than the US Postal service), Redeemer must record that donation on the date the check is received, rather than the date the check is mailed.

  • Gifts of marketable securities need to be received into our brokerage account by 4pm of the last business day of the year in order for the gift to be included in the tax deductible contribution statement for that year. Please keep in mind that these type of transfers can take several business days or even weeks to process. Redeemer must record the receipt of the securities on the day that the securities are visible and able to be traded in our brokerage account. Please consult with your tax accountant for further details on deductibility.
